I recently had the opportunity to use the Sennheiser HME-110 headset. This has to be one of the most comfortable passive headsets I have ever worn. The ear seals are a temperature sensitive foam. I think a lot of people hear the word foam and think this is a cheap feature. This can not be further from the truth. This type of foam is actually better than the gel earseals. The main reason I think it is better is the fact that on a hot summer day you will not end up with a puddle of gel goo on your shoulder. I also like the fact that in warm temperatures you do not perspire all over the ear seal as you would see in some of the gel seals.

the construction is very solid in the headset and Sennheiser backs it up with an unbelievable 10 year warranty on the headset. I think this could be the longest warranty in the business. Honestly, I think it could easily be a lifetime warranty as I do not see many people hang on to headsets for more than 10 years.

Sennheiser also includes a great headset bag with this headset. It is not a cheesy bag that you will put on a shelf and then transfer the headset to your main bag. The bag that comes with it could easily be your bag. If not the main gear bag it can be a quick day trip bag or $100 hamburger trip bag. It has heavy duty construction and several pockets suitable for charts or small books. There is ample space inside the bag for some extra items such as a flashlight or a book of NOAA approach plates.

The final thing I really like about this headset is the price. At 284.00 it fills a nice price point occupied by other headsets like the DC H10-13.4, Sigtronics S58 and the Flightcom Denali. When compared to these other headsets no one comes close on the warranty. Of course no one wants to use their warranty but I think if you had to use it the staff at Sennheiser is top notch. Jason and Chris are very proactive and have always been very helpful every time we have ever had a technical question here at our store.

So what do I dislike about the headset. The only real thing I can think of is it is missing the music/cell phone connection. I never have been a real big user of the cell phone just because your phone just does not work from the air, but I am a frequent user of the music input. Most of the people who want to learn to fly are probably a bit of a gadget geek and I think many of us have iPhones or iPods. On a long flight I like to listen to some music especially when I am in the enroute phase of a trip. This whole price point seems to miss this feature. I am not sure why. The ANR headsets which are priced higher all have the connection and several “entry-level” headsets have the connection. However, this mid to high end passive headset segment seems to have missed this feature. I suspect someone in the know would tell me it is due to a lack of power for the connection. All these headsets all seem to have the sound controls mounted on the headset

So, if you are looking for a great headset that is comfortable, well-built and comes with some nice accessories at a “not so entry level” price point the Sennheiser HME-110 makes a great choice. We always have them in stock here at Headsets Etc. If you call and speak to our office staff during business hours they can even give you a better price than you would see on the web. I can’t say how much here but lets just say it rhymes with two morty fate.

See ya in the pattern.

This is the Headsets Etc blog. Many of you do not know me. I am Louie Hilliard. I am a Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor, husband and father of one busy 2 1/2 year old. I began Headsets Etc in Summer 2000. So this coming year we will be celebrating 10 years of selling pilot supplies online. I started the website because 10 years ago there was only two or three websites selling pilot supplies. Of course now there are probably hundreds but I feel that we still give the very best price that we can give and always try to meet the needs of our customers. If you ever have a special question or need to chat about your headset please feel free to drop me an email or call our office. I am always willing to listen to your particular needs and make recommendations for what I feel will best serve you. I will make those recommendations without regard to our inventory. Which is to say I will tell you if our products will not help you. You should always be able to speak to someone at Headsets Etc. 24/7. Now the person you speak to might not be able to answer your question or solve your problem but they will leave a message for someone who will.

We have a small staff at Headsets Etc. First, there is Kristen. She has been working here since 2003. While she may not hold a pilot certificate she does know pilot supplies and headsets. If she can not answer your question I guarantee she knows someone in the industry who can answer your question. She also comes from a family of pilots so even though she logs “mommy” time I really feel that being at the airport is built into her DNA.

Mark is also someone you can depend on to answer your questions. He has worked for us since 2004. Mark used to fly B-52′s in the USAF. He is also a Commercial pilot and he teaches ground school at our flight school, Hub City Aviation. I think Mark is especially good at helping student pilots find supplies that will give them great bang for the buck. This is especially true since he works with so many students in our ground courses.

So, whoever you speak with at Headsets Etc, our desire is that you have a fun, personal experience that will result in us helping you obtain the aviation product that will best fit your needs. You will probably find errors in our website and we may not list all the specials. Heck, we actually sell stuff that is not on the website. But despite these short comings it is only because we stay so busy giving individual attention to you our customer. Give us a try and I am sure you will not regret it.
